More Than 200 People Attend Washington, DC Benefit for Red Cloud School
March 1 , 2007

For the first time in Red Cloud Indian School's history, a benefit to raise funds was held in Washington, DC, on Friday, February 23, 2007 at Gonzaga College High School. The benefit brought people together to celebrate both the successes which Red Cloud makes possible for its students and the hope given to students when they attend the school.

The benefit aimed to raise funds for five students to attend Red Cloud Indian School for a year, a goal of $45,000 which was not only met, but exceeded. The funds will allow five hard-working, appreciative students to have a place a Red Cloud. This benefit celebrates the 10-year partnership between the two Jesuit high schools, and it is also a memorial benefit in honor of Don Smith, a co-founder of the Gonzaga program.

For the past 10 years, students at Gonzaga have been coming to Red Cloud and the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in the summers to become more aware of cultural differences and to lend hands to community projects.

More than 200 people attended the event, including the Honorable Tom Dashle, South Dakota senator.

Red Cloud does not charge tuition, and the annual cost per student includes all of the expenses associated with a Jesuit education of the mind and heart. This includes transportation to and from school, which for some students is 100 miles per day, healthy hot meals and textbooks. A sincere thank you to all who helped to make this benefit a success.
