Silent Night, Holy Night, All is Calm, All is Bright . . . . . . . This was the scene at the Midnight Mass at Our Lady of Good Counsel. Well, maybe not silent or calm, after all, it was Christmas Eve and there were children present. This little Church nestled along the banks of White River has a lot to offer, neither of which would be electricity or plumbing. Lit by candles in the window and a lantern up front, with Fr. Ron Gonzalez presiding; it was a standing-room-only crowd. I would venture to say that there was not a financially wealthy person there by today’s standards, but the faith and love in that little one room church would be hard to match. As luck would have it, we managed to get through Mass without the old wood burning stove backing up, everyone made it in and out safely on the pasture trail, and I believe only two children fell asleep before the final hymn.
