Red Cloud Elementary gets visit from Pro Rodeo Clown Nationally renowned rodeo clown and comedian Duane Reichert brought his healthy lifestyles campaign to Red Cloud Elementary School last week as part of a tour of South Dakota to encourage students to say "no" to drug and tobacco use.
A rodeo clown for the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association, Reichert began his performance by telling the students he was going to bring his trick horse Pony Baroni to the school, but the principal said "no way," so instead, he brought his roping horse instead, Silver, a horse on a stick. The children belly-laughed, and continued to for the rest of the performance, as Reichert captivated the audience with his hilarious jokes, colorful costume and five inch spurs.
Intermixed with a parade of animals that he would pull out from all sorts of hiding spots, Reichert emphasized to the students the need to stay in school and work hard to graduate and go to college. "I got my degree in elementary education from Black Hills State University," he told the students. "Being a rodeo clown is great for now, but if I ever get injured or decide I don't want to do this anymore, I can be a teacher. You can be anything you want to be as long as you finish school."
Reichert also told the students about a bull rider who passed away because he was on drugs, telling them that "he could have saved himself if he had only thought twice and said no to drugs."
Reichert's performance taught the children a lot of serious lessons about life, and did so in a way that the children would understand. He also made sure to make the children laugh ever chance he got with his magic tricks. The elementary students seemed to enjoy and take in everything that was said.
