Red Cloud promotes two Lakota women into key positions

posted December 7, 2007

Two Lakota women have been promoted to positions at Red Cloud Indian School: Angie Eagle Bull, previously of the Development Office, has been named vice president for finance, and Shelley White, formerly of payroll, has been named the comptroller in the Business Office.

"I am so happy to have Angie and Shelley joining our administrative team," says Fr. Peter Klink, SJ, president. "These two ladies have devoted so much to growing this institution, and I look forward to their continued work in their new capacities.

Eagle Bull, a 1979 graduate of Red Cloud High, returned to the school in 2005 as the director mail coordinator in the Development Office. A graduate of Oglala Lakota College with a bachelor of science in business administration, she will be the first Lakota woman to hold a vice president position, overseeing all financial transactions that take place. Prior to coming to Red Cloud, she worked 23 years for the employment and training programs of the Oglala Sioux Tribe. She is currently working toward a masters degree in administrative studies.

With a lifetime of experience and continued mentorship from Fr. Pat Burns, former vice president for finance, Eagle Bull is looking forward to the opportunities that await her in her new position. "I am fortunate to work for Red Cloud, and am excited that my new position will afford the campus community," she says.

White has worked for Red Cloud for six years, starting out as an accounts assistant and most recently, in payroll. White has associates degrees in business administration and tribal management, and is working on her bachelor of science in business at Oglala Lakota College. Although she did not attend Red Cloud, she is a local from Oglala, South Dakota.

Former Comptroller Sr. Ann Marie says White is fulfilling the teacher in her. "Shelley has show characteristics and capabilities that she can do this job so well. She has also shown the determination that she wants the job.

Eagle Bull and White succeed Fr. Burns and Sr. Ann Marie, respectively. Both at Red Cloud since 1999, Fr. Burns will be the Assistant Vice President for Advancement Operations in the Development Office, and Sr. Ann Marie will become the comptroller's assistant.

Red Cloud is very proud of these two outstanding ladies and will look forward to seeing their future work. "Red Cloud exists to serve the Lakota people through its schools, parishes, and Heritage Center," adds Fr. Burns. "As often as possible we would like to have Lakota people in key positions with in the organization."
